“Ain’t everything these days. It’s so loud.” Loud and chaotic and stressful. They’re not the type to wish for the past to return, for the past was never as glorious as their citizens would attempt to spin it, but it would be a lie to say they didn’t wish for something different.
“And so obnoxious more often than not. I really wish things were different though I’m trying to imagine how.” They would definitely not return to the past but some kind of alternatives would have been welcomed. Especially since this current state was far from ideal.
“They’ve always been terribly stubborn and foolish. It certainly feels as if it’s gotten worse…though I must wonder if it it’s simply a matter of it being so obvious.” Once upon a time, one hardly knew anything outside of their community; that’s a very different matter now. And while their own world has never been so small, it leaves Aaron Chantal wondering if their views are being skewed by the people.
“True. Hm. Maybe it is just a matter of perspective – maybe things seem more obvious because everything appears to be amplified up theses days.” When it was so terribly easy to find out about what people think about damn near anything, it could be a case of confirming already suspected thoughts.
“It may make me feel better. Or you, for that matter.” They didn’t want to get to that point, but the more frustrated they get, the less it seems like such a bad idea. If they can out scream the cicadas, they could probably out scream cisnormativity.
Probably.
Ahem. “Humans are…annoyingly stubborn. Sometimes I feel they’ve gotten worse in that regard.”
“Maybe. Maybe I just got to go in the middle of nowhere or something to let out a nice yell sometime.” It didn’t seem too bad to try and get some of that anger out of their system. Even if it is almost always lurking there.
“Right. Sometimes it does feel like they’ve only gotten more stubborn about refusing to learn and it’s like don’t you realize that it’s not that hard to try? They don’t care a lot of the time, and that just eats at me.“
“…that one suits you, I think.” The movement had caught Aaron’s attention, and they had glanced over in time to see Saima holding up the shirt-dress. But they know the other didn’t ask, so they’ll shift their attention back to the clothing.
They’ve picked up a top with a floral pattern, and have evidently decided to keep it with how they’ve neatly draped the clothing over an arm.
“Oh thanks, good to hear. I’ve been really fond of those little shirt-dress type things. They’re nice and comfortable.” Although they were never one for unsolicited comments, little things like considering something they had already picked out only served to solidify Saima’s interest. Keeping the shirt-dress, they moved on wondering what else they might find.
“Duly noted,” they’re not familiar enough with Saima to recognize what could be a tick, and simply assumed the words to be genuine. But they’ll remember that detail in the future. They set the top back in the rack, evidently deciding against it. There’s dozens others to look at, anyway.
With a nod, they continue to browse, carrying a blouse in hand. It was still overwhelming at times to consider the options. For so long they only had so much they could choose, and keeping up with the options could be a bit much from time to time.
Finding a light green shirt-dress, Saima holds it up to examine the detail and maybe pose with it against their body.
Pleased by the agreement, Aaron returns their attention to the clothing, picking up a different top to get a better look at it. They won’t pick and choose what Saima decides on–it and the price point are left up to them.
“Only ‘pose? It sounds as if you still have other plans.”
“Just a phrase I use a lot out of habit. I’m fine with the agreement, really.” Whether it was a bit of a tick or not, Saima didn’t really worry too much about the frequency of such phrases. Although occasionally they wondered if it would, in fact, be better to cut things off a bit sooner. Nonetheless, they had agreed to go with the small blue blouse and looked for another nice top to add to the collection.
“Mmm, it’s how they keep the prices down.” Not everyone could afford the alternative, sadly. A smile as they hum, showing they had heard Saam as they walk towards the feminine clothing, making their way to what they assume would be close to Saam’s size. “I’ll admit, I’m fond of them as well. I assume you have the dollar on you? Ah, but it don’ matter much–I wouldn’ be opposed to payin’ if you find something you like.” They basically dragged Saam into it anyway. Assuming Saam will start looking around, Aaron goes a couple sizes up to the clothes that would fit themselves and the pieces they had previously noticed.
“The things they have to do to support themselves. ” It just seemed to be another facet of the system it was all being worked through at the moment. Making their way along with Aaron, Saam comes to the clothing that is much more likely to fit them. “I wouldn’t make you pay for anything – I think I have enough dollar on me to get a little something.” Nonetheless, they started to look through the selection – particularly interested in the loose blouses that were available.
“True, though some stores don’t quite manage it like these do.” The outlets and mass merchandisers, mainly–close, but never quite the same. “It certainly sounds more convenient than this mess; maybe I’ll have to go shopping there one day. What sort of clothes do you prefer?” Masculine and feminine clothing are organized separately, and while a couple pieces have caught their eye, they also feel it would be impolite to leave Saam to wander alone quite so quickly.
“Right, right. Natural limitations that come with being certain kinds of stores.” They give a slight nod at the idea of shopping at their place some day. “Yeah, I’m sure that you could find some good things there too.” The question of preferences came up and they thought for a moment. “Hm, I’ve been preferring more feminine clothes lately.”
