“Don’t you just love finding people attractive but not knowing how to approach them properly yet on that sort of thing? I don’t want to scare the person.”
“Yeah, that’s a real troublesome experience. And you don’t know if you should even bother approaching them about that anyway.”
Eliot never did try to refuse the idea of soulmates. If he randomly sang at times, it had to mean something. Soulmates seemed to be the only logical solution. The idea of soulmates was welcomed by him. It was a nice answer to the situation. While some didn’t believe in it, he certainly did, and very much hoped his other half would agree as well.
It was always nice to have a soulmate who sang. Gave him an excuse to leave the classroom occasionally. It also opened up his mind to many new thoughts. Singing with his soulmate on the beach. Singing with his soulmate while cooking. Anything with his soulmate really. They were all little thoughts that would pop into his head from time to time, little things that he would almost dream of, but never did they take over his life.
As the audition slowly began to come up, his thoughts of soulmates barely remained. While he did question what they were doing, he was still trying his best to focus on the audition, which he could apologize for eventually. So much of his time went into this.
Prior to his actual audition he stood outside of the rooms and warmed up, singing basic scales or sounds with a bottle of water in hand. He paced around slightly, listening to the others sing around him. He knew his audition and he knew the song his soulmate had been singing.
Soon enough, his given number was called out. 1625. Taking a deep breath, Eliot finally entered the room and began his audition. After answering a few questions it was finally his time to sing his song. With a smile on his face, he took one final deep breath and began his song.
Preparing for their own audition, Saima had been humming and doing basic scales some on their own, others because of the whole soulmate situation. They always did wonder how this audition situation was supposed to play out because of the uncontrollable singing.
It was just that moment of waiting for their turn when they found themselves singing a familiar song. This had to be the tune that their so-called soulmate had been practicing for all this time. Saima tried to keep their voice down as to not disturb others who were also waiting for their turns but it was somewhat embarrassing to have to deal with the implications of knowing that you were singing along to someone elses’s audition because of that connection.
They got through the song and could only wait until the audition had come to an end. It didn’t allow for much contact for the moment since it appeared that their own turn would be coming soon after.
I would kill for you. • I would make love to you. • I would fuck you. • I would protect you. • I would hurt you for a selfish cause. • I wish we had more in common. • I want nothing to do with you. • I want to see you cry. • I want a future with you. • I want to destroy your future. • I do not care what you do. • I am indifferent towards you. • I want children with you. • I love you ( platonically ) • I love you ( romantically ) • I love you like family. • You are my family. • I could fall in love with you. • I would lie for you. • I would fight by your side. • I will never let you go. • I would hold you while you cried. • I would hug you. • I want to kiss you. • I would stay by your bedside if you were ill. • I want to fall asleep with you in my arms. • I want to forget you. • I will never forget you. • I only want to make you proud. • I wish I could make you happy. • You deserve nothing. • I will never forgive you. • You confuse me.
When Saima had become of age to pay attention to it, they found themselves singing at unlikely times. Of course, they always enjoyed singing so it was hard to notice. But bursting into song during a class or in the middle of a quieter activity seemed to signify something beyond their control was happening.Having asked around, it was clear that these outbursts were caused by the singing of their so-called ‘soulmate’. Saima had long been somewhat skeptical about the whole soulmate deal entirely but they couldn’t deny the effects that this singing thing seemed to have on them.
They supposed it didn’t hurt too much to have a soulmate who also liked to sing. It made them feel a little less guilty about being willing to hum a tune or sing quietly from time to time when they had a song stuck in their head.
Over time there was a dedication to singing that leads Saima to want to do something with this talent they had. It had brought them to an audition to take part in a singing group after a few years of participating in extracurricular bands and other musical groups. They had noticed that whatever the soulmate was up to, it also seemed pretty dedicated about singing.
Wouldn’t be strange to meet them here? They’d idly thought while following instructions to wait somewhere for their opportunity. It didn’t seem too likely that Saima would run into their soulmate here but who could say for sure.
As the man walked around the other, he tapped his finger on his lip, obviously in deep thought. This would be hard. Yes. Very hard. After circling one more time he stopped in front of Saima. “I think that one. The one in your right hand.” He held out his hand, gesturing to the article of clothing. “Yes. That one looks perfect for you. Had to imagine what it’d look like, especially with what you currently have on. The other does look nice too, but that one is much better.” While they didn’t have to take his opinion, that’s what he personally thought. “I can buy the other for you, if you’d like. I think they’d both suit you perfectly.”
Figuring out clothes was a most fascinating process for Saima these days. It opened up a whole new world of exploration and sometimes it left them overwhelmed by the options. Which was why they were grateful to have Eliot along to help when stuck between two rather lovely options. Lifting up the right option, Saima hums before nodding a bit.
“I was starting to lean towards that one but it was so difficult since these are both rather nice. Hm, you’d buy the other one for me? I- I’d really appreciate that. You don’t have to but thanks for doing that.”
“That’s why I asked the thing. The thing about hugging. This is why I need a buddy when I go to the bar. I need a friend who’s chill with a cheek kiss whenever it gets awkward with another person.”
“Right that makes sense. I feel like there should be someone near you who’d be willing to go out with you every so often to help you avoid the attention of others.“
“Dammit. Earlier this guy touched my butt and made that lame pickup line about sticks in pockets. I don’t get what he was trying to say. I heard you can lie and say someone else is your girlfriend or boyfriend or date person but there were only couples around me. Awkward, right?”
“..Sounds like a really dumb pickup line. I mean you could lie – but in that case, i wouldn’t have been a good one with all the couples around. That is incredibly awkward and I’m sorry you had to deal with that.“
“Yes, but you can, right? Does that mean if a guy is bothering me, I can bring an extra hoodie and fake like another person is hugging me?” He’s not that good with plans when drunk. Doesn’t help he’s already drinking more beer.
“Uh. You can. But that’s not going to convince anyone. It’s just going to look extra weird that you’re trying that.“It’s pretty apparent that drunk plans aren’t exactly the most feasible.
“Is it possible to hug yourself? I’m not upset, don’t worry, but is it possible? I know it’s possible to kiss yourself, so does the same go with hugging?” He’s a little tipsy.
“I mean it’s technically possible to hug yourself. Not really recommended – since the embrace can’t fully surround like a hug from another person.”
