Laima replied with a sigh that made her whole body shake. “Mm, I won’t.” She paused for a long while, face hidden away and jaw set firmly as she staved off the fear that would sometimes chew on her bones. “The same goes for you, you know.” 

“Okay.“ Sometimes Saam felt saying a little less was more and frankly, they were in no position to try to make up anything further. They gave Laima a small squeeze of affection. “I know. Thanks.” Despite their own reluctance to take up the offer, it was a good reminder to keep in mind.

Laima replied with a small grunt, but tossed her arms around Saam, leaning a bit to press her face against their shoulder. “I know, I know. I’m bad at that.” That much was correct, she was a bit of a mess when it came to keeping herself in line with what was healthy. “I haven’t figured out how to fix it.” 

Saam held her closer, trying to provide the support that Laima probably didn’t get often enough.  “Right. I can underestand how difficult that can be. It’s hard to really try to value yourself to stop fussing over others so much at your detriment. But if you need anything from me – please don’t hesitate to ask okay?”

“Oh.” She stopped after that, still leaning hard into Saam’s side in some attempt at soothing herself. Laima was struggling, despite her best efforts. “That makes sense, thanks Saam.” A sigh followed, Laima turning to further lean into them. 

Saam was perfectly contented to make this a full blown hug to hold Laima for a little bit. It was readily apparent that it was obvious. And they were clearly able to sacrifice space for one of their friends.”You’re welcome. Sometimes you really have to look after yourself a bit more.”

Laima’s fussing was to be expected even if Saam didn’t quite imply that it was necessary. They give a little sigh in return at the question. “I could be better. But you’re clearly running on fumes. So I wanted to check in I suppose.”

[Helps them carefully, giving Saam’s hands a small squeeze] Don’t lock your knees, and ah, grab onto me if you’re going to tip over. 

[She has to tilt her chin up and she’s positively beaming]

[They manage to get up and stand up stabilizing themselves as they go]

Right, right.

[They look down and smile a bit back at her. Standing up here feels pretty nice they have to admit.] Honestly? I get the appeal of these heels now.

[Gets to her feet, holding out her hands for Saam to take] 

Stand up slowly now.

[Saam takes her hands. ]

Alright, then.

[When directed, they slowly, slowly start to get up with the heels on]

[The shoes are off, and she passes said heels to them] 

I’ll help you up when you’re ready, Saam. [And she’s rubbing a sore spot on the ball of her right foot]

[They receive the heels and puts them on] Thanks.

[that rub doesn’t go unnoticed – a reminder of how Saam intends on going a lot  more subtle when they do get some heels]

I guess I’m ready to try these.
