Every representative (human officials included) had abandoned the meeting hall except for two: America and the newly-established Republic of Estonia. The former stole glances at his sole companion while fiddling with a spare pen. He eventually decided to initiate conversation. “It’s been three years since you put your foot down.”
Although during a recent briefing they’d told him the actual documents involved in Estonian Independence weren’t officially solidified until August of this year. Nevertheless, Alfred had to give the new guy props for not only organizing a successful referendum, but for overturning an attempted coup as well.
Like any other sane American, he was never truly fond of Gorbachev, let alone anyone who identified as a Soviet authority. But it’d go against reason to deny the fact that glasnost and perestroika ended up playing in his favor.
“How does it feel to finally be free?”
Finally, the meeting had come to an end, it still felt unreal that they were going to meetings on their own again. It felt like so long it was a wonder that they managed to actually get things together in a proper fashion again. Saam had quietly started to gather their belongings when they heard a voice speak to them.
Somewhat tired eyes gazed back at Alfred with the hint of a smile on their lips. “Yeah, 3 years. Funny how much can take place in that time. Still feels like a bit of a blur.” It had been a truly busy time and they had barely any moment to actually think about the implications of what had been done.
“Feels ..feels good. Pretty unreal – I’m still kind of in a daze that it’s even possible to be free again. But here I am doing it. I’ve got so much to get back into again, it can be overwhelming, to say the least.“
Comments about not being seen angry have come on a somewhat regular basis these days. “Ah yeah. I don’t really think that’s a bad thing these days. Maybe a little frustration, a little irritation when things come up. But – I, I’d do try to avoid getting legitimately angry. I know what I’m like when I’m that way and despite my relatively chill demeanor – that can easily turn to callousness if anger is infused there. It’s not something I like to fully show to people. So maybe it’s for the best that you haven’t seen me in such a bad situation.”
hylianminstrel: warriortomaiden: thetenk: boss fight This guy is clearly a robot. No human could do this. This is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen.
“Lots already think I’m nuts. You can never look at a guy the same again after watching him unfasten a parasite from his buddy’s orifices in the middle of a mall food court.” Very long story, please don’t ask. “Anyhow, doesn’t bother me much ‘cause I’ll probably never see them again”
But how? They’d lost an entire village. “I’ll learn to cope in the meantime. Whoever you’re seeing, I hope they’re treating you well.” He paused by a storefront to peer into the display window. “Suit yourself. I often ended up in those types of places one way or another whenever I dropped by Vegas.
A pause at that mention. Saima just kind of stares in a pointed what the ever-loving fuck kind of look. “That sounds ..exhausting to deal with. It’s definitely for the best that you don’t see some people ever again.”
That’s the big question – for which one may have to find answers on their own. “Thanks, thanks. They treat me very well – I’ve got no complaints.”With that said, they go to check out the display as well – enjoying just seeing what kind of wares there is to see.
“Many of my friends today used to be my enemies.” Funny, how that works. “I wonder how some of them can still call me their ‘friend’. But I’m with you on the names preference. It’d be kinda weird if I started calling you ‘Estonia’ and you started calling me ‘America’.” Especially to the people around them. Oh, the looks they’d get.
“Exactly. Who cares if I cost us the entire village?” He’d cared a lot, actually. Don’t make him admit it. “Mhm. Are you seeing someone at the moment? If not, you could walk into a strip club whenever without fear of getting caught.” A pause. “Unless your partner’s alright with you visiting those types of places. Mine certainly isn’t.”
“Same here. I used to really dread the folks that I’m pretty close to.” There was really only one major exception but maybe time would change that situation too. They probably wouldn’t bet on it though. “Yeah, maybe some people think of others as associates or whatever. True – true. It’d be surreal to everyone else around. They’d consider us mad.” Regardless of the actual truth of that accusation.
A shrug. “Well.. You can always move one from such incidents. ” At the question, they think for a moment. “Kind of seeing someone – but I’m probably not likely to go to such places even if I could. It’s a strange dynamic for me.”
They give a good lookover – once or twice. Humming a bit to themselves, Saima keeps the question in mind for a moment or two. “Yeah. It’ll take a bit of time – but it can be repaired from what I can see of it.”
