“It’s perfectly okay to feel that way! I can understand that you’ll be worried to tell others and explain, that’s completely fine. Don’t feel like it’s too much to ask for. You deserve to be accepted. If they don’t accept you, you don’t need them in your life. I care so much about you. You’re my friend. I will accept you and support whatever you wish to do.”
A little sigh falls out, a bit relieved. Sure it’s been a relatively okay time – it didn’t mean the leftover stress wouldn’t still haunt Saam from time to time. “Yeah. Hah. You know, I’ve always had issues with feeling like I should ask for anything from people. and this has really surfaced them further. But it’s also exposed how for a solid amount of folks – that fear was unnecessary. And it’s been strange wrestling with that.”
“Take your time. No need to rush into things. You have no reason to rush, right? You can take however long you need. Just know I’ll be here with you the whole time, supporting you.”
“Thanks. Feykir. That – that means a lot to me. Because I don’t mention this to a lot of people. But I’m often pretty apprehensive about how others will react to this discovery. Just because it’s often hard to explain to those that have never had to struggle with this feeling. I just want to be understood and sometimes I feel like that’s too much to ask for. ”
“That’s good. If it makes you feel better, do it. I support you all the way. I’ll take you clothes shopping, help you find new stuff to buy, or even knit you something.”
“Nice. Oh that’s so kind of you. You don’t need to do all that for me. Although I wouldn’t mind checking out some stuff. At the moment, I’m just still sorting out some thing sin my mind – things that now make more sense in the light of these changes.”
“You always look really nice, if I’m honest. You have a nice face and I love your new hairstyle.”
“Oh cool. I’m glad that you think so. I know I’ve needed to change some things for a while. And ..honestly, I’m glad that I did. It’s been helping me feel better.”
“You never know when a small, random act of kindness changes someone. Maybe they were having a bad day and you cheered them up. I want to be a person they remember for being nice, not being an ass.” It was a small goal of his.
“You can still visit whenever you want, don’t forget that. I will always buy you a meal too. You’re my friend so why not? I can also be here to talk whenever you need it.”
“This is very true. Certain acts help make a day all that much better without even meaning to.I try to leave a good impression at the very least. ”
Saam managed a small smile. “I appreciate it a lot. And you know the offer is mutual if you ever decide to come out my way.”
“We can only make up for it by being nice people, I guess. You’re a nice person, far nicer than some of the much larger countries. It’s nice. I like it.” A small smile appeared on his face. “There’s nothing we can change about it so we might as well just go on with our lives. At least we can still talk, right? And visit each other.”
“Guess so. It seems like it’s worth it. Hah, thanks. I try to be decent to others to the best of my ability. So I appreciate that it seems to work well with you.” Although said niceness can’t always be guaranteed, it’s a decent goal at least.
“Right. We might as well do what we do best anyway. Yeah – we can still talk and everything.“
“It’s the downside of the country being small…I do understand how you feel, really, I do. We may have completely different experiences, but both of us do experience similar feelings of not being as major as say France or Germany. I don’t mind too much. People are typically far more respectful, but then you will always find that one rude person.”
“Right. I’m sure many smaller nations have had to deal with that same kind of ignorance. I honestly don’t mind not being a major player. It leads to a lot less pressure most of the time. But it still takes a toll knowing that what you might say isn’t all that important to most.. ”They shrug. It’s a feeling that they’re used to by now.
“Maybe they confused Iceland with Ireland and were just drunk? Not the first time it has happened…” This is true, someone has shown up at his doorstep after trying to go to Ireland. “If I was that close to England…damn. Hell no.”
“Yeah. I suppose that very well could have been the case. Doesn’t make the mistake any less annoying.” But maybe they were just too alert to errors like that due to people knowing literally nothing about their home.
“Something like that…” A cough and awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck. “I just heard someone say that Iceland is connected to England.”
A small pause before a sigh comes out. “Man, people are absolutely ridiculous when they want to be huh. Ignorance is really going to get these folks into trouble for real.”
