“I had a feeling that might be the case.” she murmured, smiling. “I almost feel like I should promise to take you somewhere important to me when we get back…I’m not sure I have an equivalent though.” She’d had a lot of homes over the years, some that were special to her and some that held only memories best pushed to the back of her mind, but half of them weren’t even standing anymore, let alone as pristine and beautiful as their current surroundings.

“I’m not surprised they still tell it, it’s certainly more interesting than some of the creation stories I’ve heard.” Saima’s excitement rubbed off on her a little, maybe because it told her it was something truly worth seeing, and when they hit the clearing her steps ground to a halt as she took in the scene. It almost felt like the meteor sang too, just not in the same sense; something you felt in your bones instead of your ears. “I didn’t expect it to be so big, though I guess I should have…Is there a parallel for this? Something that reflect on the other world.”

“Hm, that’s fair. With the changes that Earth has undergone over the years, it’s easy for any places like you’ve had might have altered or disappeared. I’d be definitely willing to visit places that you do have.”Although the comparison would be pointless as their home was a whole another territory, seeing some of Lea’s cherished places would be appreciated.

“Oh certainly. There’s a lot of interesting stories that have been passed down through many folktales and the imagery that comes with it is often stunning.”To share in this excitement of being in a place that resonated with them to the core. “Ah yeah. Well, there are rumors that the island Saaremaa which is the largest island in Estonia is a reflection of that original meteor crash and maybe some of the other islands are fragments from that crash.”

“I–It doesn’t help the other gods also enjoy appearing to me with their animal heads…” He had been made the butt of many jokes within his godly family because of it. They meant well.

“It is, uh…every meeting is an experience.” Thoth was generally an intimidating person, even when you were his son. “Yeah…some people get very upset about it to…either they really don’t believe in magic or don’t like the god connotation…”

“Oh dear, that can only imagine the running gag that those other gods must have had between each other.” It seemed to make sense that the other gods would be rather amused by teasing Setau in such a way.

“…Makes sense. He certainly has a presence about him.” And Setau would likely know that better than anyone else. “Or both. Which makes it all the more understandable that you would want to keep that information on the low.”

scrxll:

“I am not ssso picky about fish but I do admit, it hasss a nice flavor when sssmoked…” Granted he doesn’t have much self control to catch the fish and then prepare a fire to cook it in, but on the rare occasion when he has company, it’s been rather delightful.

Ayumu simple nods, walking off to pick up any bits of driftwood and grasses to fuel the fire, along with a few twigs to start up the flame.

“That is very true. And sometimes that extra level of flavor when it’s smoked makes eating all the more enjoyable.”They did get a certain enjoyment out of preparing foods in different relatively simple ways. It didn’t take a lot for something good to come out of fish.

Saima goes off on their task, trying to find some rocks – humming to themselves as they search and gather.

She nodded. “That’s alright, I wasn’t really expecting to understand all of it…it’s a privilege just to be here, and to see what it means to you. Clearly it’s a lot.”

She stayed quiet as they spoke of loneliness, though, letting the subject slip away. It was never too pleasant to talk about, especially not for them as beings that lived so very long. Instead she focused on their laughter, pleased to have drawn it out.

“A meteor site? That sounds amazing! And I’m always up for a story, even if the spirits are feeling shy.” She followed along behind Saima eagerly, wondering what the spirits would be like if they did see any and trying to make sure she didn’t miss anything as they walked at the same time. She tried to wrap her head around the colourful trees, a smile lighting her lips as they passed under the beautiful canopy. “Even the things that are familiar here somehow aren’t.” she murmured, eyes on the multi-coloured leaves. “It’s wonderful.”

“It’s so much. This – this is where home is for me. It’s where I run off to when I’ve had to leave the realm for some years at a time so it is incredibly dear to me.” The memories of returning here time and time over the years in order to maintain some sense of inner peace when the human world was getting too much for them to really be bothered with.

Lea’s interest in the meteor site was encouraging and they smiled at her. “You know, there’s a story with this meteor, rumored to have been seen on Estonia and when it fell down there, it’s why the land turned out the way it did. It’s part of a pretty early creation story people still tell.” It was exciting to be able to show someone this special space. And after some time, they managed to stumble upon a large clearing where the remains of a meteor made it seem like there were little islands all around. The energy of this place felt too beautiful and radiant, like it was a source of many things.

“Hah yeah. There’s a lot of parallels but..it’s not quite the same, they have their influences. It’s pretty fascinating to see how that played out.”

scrxll:

Saima’s words are lost to him, Setau having trouble focusing on anything else aside his current problem. He attempts to breathe deeply, internally trying to calm himself and get his eyes to cease their glowing.

He doesn’t enjoy lying, even if it was mainly to protect himself– there shouldn’t be a reason for him to lie. Setau eventually turns back to them, looking rather sheepish for being called out– of course, he’s more than pleasantly surprised when it’s revealed that Saima has a bit of a secret too. “O–Oh, are you a– a demi-God too? Th–That’s what I am!” He whispers, scarcely containing his excitement to meet…well, anyone remotely like him!

“A demi-God, you are huh? I figured there was something interesting about you that I picked up on. I wasn’t really trying to call it out though right off the back.” Saima replied with a little bit of a smile.

“Me? I’m more of a spirit God type deal but. It’s a pleasure to see someone like you surviving in these times.” They patiently explained their own situation, hoping it would help Setau knowing that someone can relate to his unique experience in a way.

scrxll:

It was funny but sad all the same. Even worse was that despite being apart of the world as well, non-humans have little say in what happens to it. No other species on Earth creates so much destruction as humanity and yet they are everywhere, controlling everything they can get their hands on.

Thankfully they cannot control yokai, but they still manage to push their existence to the deepest parts of the ocean. “I jussst hope thingsss get better. For their sssake, at leassst…”

It was really quite unfortunate how much range and reach the humans had. Saima could very well feel like non-humans could only do so much in response to the actions humans take and the next generation could undo any progress made in the first place.

“I do hope so as well. Sometimes there are signs of that every so often but it’s not very consistent really.”

paperworkanddogs:

“I think we have lemon…. No, we have pickled lemon, which is not good in tea. Will lemon juice work?”

“Yeah – no for pickled lemon. But lemon juice should work just fine. I only need a little bit of it anyway.”

scrxll:

“Th–That’s great! I’m glad you’re doing well, ah, feeling creative is always…always a nice feeling.” He stumbles through his words, his nerves causing his fingers to twiddle, clearly anxious.

Wh–What?” His reply comes out as a squeak, the glow in his eyes heightening. He turns away, trying to hide the light, stepping away from Saima. “I–It’s nothing…what do you mean?”

“True, true – it’s really one of the few ways that I can really try to express my true self.”A self that they’ve been hiding for quite some time. The fact that Setau is only getting more nervous implies that their instincts were correct that there is something about this whole deal.

“It’s not nothing, Setau.” They say quite calmly. “Your eyes are glowing – what I mean is that it’s clear that you’ve been hiding a part of yourself from others as shown with the eye thing. What I’m saying is that I can relate since I’ve done the same thing although for different reasons.” The next glance they give at Setau shows Saima’s blue-green sclera and white eyes, a near exact inverse of the eyes they had before.

scrxll:

The snake listens, brows drawn together as it becomes more and more clear that non-humans (at least those he has met) all seem to have the same experiences with humanity. It was a shame really, that so much of the world’s population seemed to have an adverse reaction to them.

“Isss that not the funniessst part of it all? They try and protect the creaturesss that are only in danger due to their folly. Amusssing, isss it not?”

“There is definitely a morbid humor in it all. The fact that the only reason that these creatures they are trying to protect – they put in that position in the first place.” A dry little chuckle was the only way that reacting to this whole situation is appropriate.

“There so many little morbidly amusing things about the way that they live.”
