scrxll:

“I think…I think the goddesses are more…like mothers– I mean…my mother wasn’t around but I can…I can imagine.” And he has imagined. For years now what having a mother was like.

“They’re all nice to me, at least. Thoth is the only one that really…really is bad with such things.” He chuckles softly at the thought.

“Well. One would guess so, there is some precedent for that surely – but you never know with gods. They often change roles so often that assuming puts people bad spots.“

“That’s always nice to hear that they’re all nice to you. Hah, I guess your father is just more of an awkward sort. Which I can relate to all too well.”

scrxll:

“You were raisssed by humansss? How funny!” How stressful would that have been for a human? Having this small…bone eating child to raise to only discovery it wasn’t even human? How had they dealt with those outbursts of powers?

“I have been alone sssince…since I was ssseven.” And he means literally 7 years out of the 500 or so he’s been alive. “That isss when my parentsss ssset me loossse upon the world. All my sssiblingsss before me have left at that age too. Or ssso I was told.”

A bit of nervous laughter. “Hah. Yeah – I’m sure it would have been a comedic sight.”At least at first, until one witnessed someone being exiled multiple times because humans could not handle them in the least. Wild times.

“Ah seven – it seems like there’s a tradition there of setting out around then. Well that’s nice to grow up with that kind of expectation of being let loose after a short while.“

scrxll:

“You know, despite being a god and even being as serious as he is, he acts much like a father would at times. It’s a little funny actually…” Setau doesn’t think Thoth would appreciate being painted in such a mundane way, but it was true.

“He gives those…those weird words of wisdom and is just…generally bad at explaining topics of the heart. I feel like a lot of dad’s never know how to really talk to their children. Even a god can’t seem to grasp it.”

Saima couldn’t help but smile at the thought that Setau does, in fact, act like such a dad, perhaps in some more endearingly awkward ways.

“I get what you mean about those weird words of wisdoms and being bad at topics from the heart. It’s funny that even gods have a hard time trying to get their point across to their children.“

scrxll:

Extraordinary. Were you…wasss your physssical being young in that time? Have you no beingsss that ssserved asss your guardiansss?” Even he had a mother and father at one point to help him grow and guide him in the ways of their kind.

“Hasss it alwaysss been jussst you?”

“It was fairly young. I would say that I appeared to be around 4 years old at the time. I did come under the care of some humans from time to time but because I matured relatively slowly compared to them and had strange powers- they couldn’t really help me out too much. It was a lot of trial and error until I managed to stumble upon some other long-lived beings to help figure stuff out.”

“Most of the time, it’s just been me though.“

scrxll:

“Yeah, you’re very right.” His lips purse as he thinks more on it, brows furrowing together tightly before he eventually relaxes, letting out a soft chuckle. “I keep thinking this is some…some really dramatic talk that’s going to happen but I mean…he may be a god but he’s also my dad. I think I’m making it scarier by thinking he’s this…big, scary god instead of my father.”

It was nice to see that Setau understood Saima’s point. “I get how you could think it would be dramatic. But he is your dad – and forgetting that relation tends to make it scarier than it needs to be. So it’s more of a conversation than anything else – which may make it easier to approach.”

scrxll:

“…Do you often attempt to eat bone?” It made sense for him due to his more animalistic characteristics but he finds the idea of Saima attempting to chew through bone with those dull teeth was rather funny.

“No, not really. I just remembered that when I first taking on this form a long time ago – I would try to eat darn near anything I could get my hands on. I realized quickly the limits of what these teeth were capable of unless I used my abilities to alter the material.” The image was a funny one – a small feral youth wandering the forest and gnawing on whatever.

scrxll:

“Crunch isss nice. Everything I catch isss relatively sssoft sssince it isss raw– aside bonesss but I do not like eating bonesss…” It was only recently that he decided to harness the use of fire to make his meals better, even if it was a general hassle to accomplish.

“Makes the biting more satisfying, I’d say. But yeah, bonees are pretty unpleasant eating. And you don’t even get all that much marrow in them either. So it’s not worth the effort of trying to eat bone.”

scrxll:

“I kind of like the idea of…of getting to know Thoth better too. He keeps to himself a lot…then again, I’ve been afraid to ask him anything too personal– I’ve got to get over that if I’m going to…going to connect with him.”

“It’s a good idea from my perspective. Although that keeping to himself might make your fear of asking too personal questions understandable, you’d have to get over it for the sake of the project. And for the sake of getting to know him better. Which would likely be worthwhile in the effort.”

scrxll:

“That is a  good idea…Maybe I can write him a memoir. I mean…other people would consider it fiction but me and Thoth would know better.” Again, he isn’t exactly sure how Thoth would react to such a thing but perhaps he could convince him.

“That would be a pretty fun project. I’m sure there would be some interesting content that would make it into such a good read. And it’ll be a fun little secret so to speak between the two of you how accurate it actually is.”

scrxll:

“They categorize themssselvesss in sssso many little nichesss…they turn againssst one another for ssstupid reasssonsss. They ssseem to forget the ressst of natural world ssseesss them all the sssame– they are all on the sssame level of mediocrity.”

He glances down at the smouldering fish, forked tongue flicking out to taste the air around it. “Almossst done– well, I like mine crissspy. If you like it tender you might want to take yoursss off the fire.”

A nod of agreement. Humans would always find a way to differentiate between themselves and exploit others based off of that. It was an annoying tendency as much as it was inevitable.

“Well, I’ll have it crispy as well. Tender is good – but something about having it nicely crispy is rather satisfying.“ They were content to leave the fish on the fire for a little bit longer.
