“I should be worried, but at this point, I’m just kinda…” He gestured pointlessly. “Y’know? Feels like it wouldn’t be worth it if I overreacted. ‘s already over with.”

“I get what you mean. It’s too late to do anything about it so no need to waste that energy. It’s just.. weird to have witnessed whatever that was.”

“What are your thoughts on cyber warfare?”

“It’s definitely something that should be kept an eye on and will only become more and more common as the days roll on. It’s a major reason why my place has made such a focus on getting into and getting good with cyber security efforts. So ..to sum it up, it’s another form of disarming and destabilizing places that could very easily exacerbate already tense situations between lands. ” Although they remain relatively calm, it is something that they’ve spent a lot of time thinking about while on the job – just because they have had experiences dealing with vulnerabilities and thus are a lot more wary of them and the potential effects of their exposure.

“Well, I’m relieved to hear at least one of us is doing okay.” If they mapped out everything according to current events, some parts of the world were constantly burning, and some parts were constantly in a state of 90-99% peace. Funny, how that works. “Thanks. I appreciate it.”

“Pretty grateful for that. Even if it does feel like there’s always an underlying wariness. But I’ve been used to that by now.” It’s just the consequence of re-establishing oneself against the contrasts of so many events. “You’re welcome.”

“I’ll take your word for it. If my laptop ever implodes or if one of my devices becomes a target for cyberattacks, I’ll text you lots of ‘crying’ emojis and beg for help.” Notice the healthy dose of playful sarcasm in his tone. “I hope to God your work treats you well, unlike mine. I think I’d rather tamper with computers all day than deal with my current situation.”

They return a laugh. “Of course, I’ll have your back if you need it.” A similarly playful tone is in their reply. “It treats me pretty well – I can’t complain about it honestly. You have my sympathies for your situation. I can imagine it’s ridiculous nonstop over there.”

“I guess, although I can’t say I fully blame them for mistaking me as younger. Even the real interns think I’m one of them. ‘s kinda hilarious when I play along and someone else corrects the misunderstanding.” He renamed contacts on his phone while listening. “Say, how well do you know computers?”

“Yeah. It’s one of those things that can’t be hlelped. But at least you get some entertainment out of the misunderstanding.” They think for a moment at the question before replying. “I’m actually really good with them. Especially since a lot of my work these days is supporting the e-services within my country.”

“Have you any idea how often I get mistaken for an intern at the White House? People who’ve never seen me before tell me to refill their goddamn coffee cups as if I’ve nothing better to do. You should see the faces they make when I clear things up.”

“I imagine it has to be quite often.” A slight tsk comes out of their mouth. “Guess that’s the trouble with being so fresh-faced. I know the feeling though – people around my bosses office tend to treat me like a local IT repair-person, usually entry level. It’s interesting for them to see how much I fully know about the offices around there.”

“Heh, yeah. Don’t need any kind of deaths if that can be avoided.” Saam listens to the description before glancing over. “ ….That has got to be an experience. I mean one person’s trash is another’s new item. So at least they’re still getting some use. They seem to suit you pretty well for accidentally acquired glasses.”
