He smiles and nods, head ducking down slightly as he thought on it more. “It was not always so easy– I’m sure you can understand. He was essentially abandoned…he would come home in tears because the other children made him feel unwanted.” There’s a long, heavy sigh as Idris remembers such a day. “As much as I love him and cherished every moment I got to be a father to him, had his life been normal, I feel he would have had a happier existence.”

The knowledge that Setau had been essentially abandoned and made to feel unwanted definitely pulled at Saima. Causing them to give a little bit of a sigh as well. It was always difficult having an unusual life, but to be abandoned in the process – truly something they could feel for.

“It’s certainly possible he would have had a happier existence being normal. It..it’ so unfortunate that so many in this world still don’t really know how to deal with those from different circumstances.  It’s a real shame that he had to deal with that kind of rejection.“

He doesn’t mess around when it comes to his bros. Or John Cena.

“Exactly! I mean…there’s morbid jokes for a reason…it’s solely for ghosts to cheer up new ghosts. Like, get this…why do ghosts like to ride elevators?

Solid.

“Fair enough. It’s almost as if they are welcoming new ghosts into the fold through shenanigans.” The joke, they knew was likely going to be amusingly terrible. Which is why they looked forward to the response. “Oh I don’t know – why do they?”

—– “Warm  weather  just reminds me
          of home.”
he admits, wrinkling his nose
a bit, “When it’s cold, I can really start
to  forget  that  I’ll never see it again.”

A small pause before giving a slight nod of recognition. “Fair. Whatever makes it easier to deal with starting over since then. Sincere apologies for the loss of home.” It seemed like that had to be a painful process to say the least.

Well, Jan and I have moved in together. I am living in Amsterdam, now. It’s quite an adjustment, I’d say, especially given that my Dutch is terribly lacking.

[She’s making a genuine effort, though, and with Jan’s help she is seeing progress. It helps that she now lives immersed in the language.]

Oh, no thank you. We have been having quite our fill of it. I have actually been meaning to take some jars to Arthur for his tea.

Ah, congrats on the move. Amsterdam is an interesting city – I would suppose that would be quite the transition though.

[Suppose that just gives Saima more reasons to visit though.]

Understandable, more for me I guess. Nice. I’m sure he’ll enjoy it as well – being as lovely as it is.

lilli-of-the-mountain‌:

I think one can appreciate their role in nature regardless. Or if they don’t, they should. I can see how it would be calming to feel connected to something bigger than oneself.

[Some days she wishes she could move about life with as calm an air as Saima. Whether that calm air hides something more chaotic, she can hardly claim to know.]

Oh certainly. They really should take the time to appreciate what is around them. It’s too easy to take trees for granted.

[The calm air used to hide a lot of nervous inner chaos but these days, it feels more sincere which is quite refreshing as far as Saima is concerned.]

But what else have you been up to – care to try the honey for your own sake?

lilli-of-the-mountain‌:

Well, if you are in need of anything for your canning, do let us know. We have plenty enough. Apparently bees make your garden explode with life and we have far more than we could possibly eat.

[She sighs happily and settles into the couch, watching them with a fond gaze.]

I wonder what it would be like to know the language of the trees. So far I think the only communication I have with plants comes with a lot of ‘äh’s and ‘what?’s in the mixture.

Oh how wonderful. I’m sure I would appreciate some supplies of what you have in your garden.

[With a casual ease, they cut a few slices of the bread and gathers one to spread some honey on. When the slice is covered with honey, they take a bite or two before nodding in approval.]

You should be proud, the honey’s delicious.

Heh, I mean that’s a form of communication in its own right Lilli. I will say speaking with the trees is ..really lovely. Makes you feel really a part of existence in a serene way.

lilli-of-the-mountain‌:

It really is. We started it about the same time we started our relationship. It is a sort of visual reminder of the life we’re building, you know?

[Ah, but she’s getting sappy. She’s here to visit her dear friend, not to prattle on about her relationship.]

The weather is going to turn, now. Have you started your canning? What are the forests saying? Do they think it will happen soon?

Aww, that’s actually really endearing.

[It kind of pulls at a weak spot in a weird way. Saima’s very happy for her really. ]

Indeed, it’s started to turn. I’ve been getting started on my canning – it’s been good going. I can’t wait to have a nice stocked pantry of preserves and jams ready.

The trees are definitely starting to signal the change of the seasons. So you’re right to keep an eye out for it.

It is from my hives. [She is such a proud bee Mama at this point.] Jan and I have started a hive in our garden. He wants to sell this and the excesses from his gardens and I told him we need to be neighborly and give it away.

Ah, how delightful.

It’s nice that you and Jan are having a hive together. I mean, he could have gotten some money for it. But I do appreciate that you opted to give me some. Let me get some gingerbread to try this on.

[A trip to the kitchen and back with some bread, a few saucers and a couple of spoons.]

Saima! I have something for you! [As if Lilli doesn’t always come with presents in tow for them. At least this time it’s nothing extravagant. Just two jars of golden, delicious honey.] I’m not saying it is the best honey you have ever had or will ever have, but I am fairly certain that it is close. You can almost taste the love in it.

Lilli, it’s always wonderful to see you. [The sight of honey does catch their attention.] Oh, I do enjoy some lovely honey. Where’d you get this from? I think I have a few things this can be spread on, I have to try this out for sure.
