3. How do they position themselves in a group? Do they like to be the center of attention, or do they hang back at the edges of a crowd?

Saima has always been more of an observer, it’s been something that they’ve carried since they were very young. They much prefer to be along the sidelines because drawing too much attention to themselves may cause them to want to disappear or suddenly excuse themselves out of discomfort. Of course, they’ve been able to handle themselves professionally for a cause they get involved with. But generally, they don’t mind being on the edge of a crowd.

Unless they are doing something musical, in that case – they don’t really mind attention since they are sharing a passion that they care for.

13. How do they greet the world — what is their typical attitude towards life? How does it differ in different circumstances, or towards different subjects? Why do they take these attitudes, and why do they change? How do these tend to be expressed?

Despite a certain wariness that comes from seeing what history has wrought on their land and the world at large, Saima still does have a certain kind of curiosity in the way they approach the world. This comes from originally not being all that associated with this realm and so they are still fascinated with the inevitable changes.

Although they’ve become a little more familiar with what the world requires in using a physical form to navigate it, they still have a detached perspective that allows them to just be willing to listen to the experiences of those who have been a lot more..enmeshed with all the happenings.

Saima’s general focus is finding the mysterious and mythic in modern life these days. Since they take a lot of inspiration and energy from such things. So they do have a passion for finding such aspects of life when they can.

14. What do they care deeply about? What kind of loyalties, commitments, moral codes, life philosophies, passions, callings, or spirituality and faith do they have? How do these tend to be expressed?

They care primarily about the land and people of Estonia – since it is place where the mythos of their origin has called them to look after. And specifically, the way that myths from way back can continue to influence the lives of those around them. It’s been their calling that to be a part of this realm, they will bring a touch of magic to their surroundings in subtle ways. If that means inspiring those in the midst of a fight, so be it – if it means volunteering and giving off that vibe of being from beyond this world a little bit, so be it. They are determined to help and be a useful presence for as long as they can.

21. What kind of relationships do they tend to intentionally seek out versus actually cultivate? What kind of social contact do they prefer, and why?

Saima rarely intentionally seeks out relationships. Although, they do tend to like finding people and beings that they can learn from – that they can observe how they play a role around here. So they have been known to fit themselves into situations in order to learn about how they can help the people around them and what role that requires them to play.

In terms of social contact, they do like making friends although – it is a complicated process because they are not certain to tell the real truth about their existence. So it’s playing the role of someone who is more familiar with that life than they really are. It’s still a question that has been nagging at them, since it’s getting harder for them to want to hide that part of themselves.

Over time they manage to cultivate relationships with those who have also been around for a long time albeit for different reasons. And they’ve honestly learned about how to best fit into that environment from being around such entities.

[so basically, the deal is that Saima has been closely associated with folklore and myths since their creation and basically their experiences are more closely associated with lore and magic. They in reality basically are something akin to a restless, visiting spirit of local lore – who has been able to play the role of a ‘personification’ from time to time.

Therefore the way they’ve seen history can be somewhat distanced or re-interpreted from those who have been actively fighting. Especially since they’re likely to have maybe helped motivate or comfort in certain ways over the years.

Although that hasn’t really been their role originally – it’s more something done to keep in touch with the realities of how things change.

And thus they’ve been keeping some of this from people for a long time, content to just have rumor potentially address.]

“Existence has changed me so much, it’s almost like one forgets how things were. And in some ways still are.”

These thoughts run in the back of Saima’s mind as they wander off, far from the home that they’ve taken up. Far from the role that they have chosen to play as an excuse to be around, as an excuse to help. They stroll off, determined to find something that they can not articulate to others, an internal restlessness driving them more than any deadline or ordinary responsibility.

Lahemaa..now a park seems to be the closest place that they can truly run to, to be drawn to the scene of a place that feels more and more familiar with each step that they take.  As the walk extends, something hidden, something kept secret starts surfacing – their demeanor starts to shift. No longer pretending to be something familiar, something that can be easily grasped. Eyes brighten, and Saima’s being blends in more and more into the environment. If someone were to pass by, it would easy for Saima to go unnoticed or to be a vision at best. To disappear before the human eye has been something they’ve held on over the years with ease, a useful trick in the many times of trouble this land has seen.

It was something that they hadn’t really figured they had done in a little time, to embrace the fact that they were often a vision, a rumor of belief. After all, their memories were mixed with those of the stories of yore, of legends that people believed to have been constructed. Some things may have been lost but some things would continue for as long as there are stories to tell and reason to tell them, they would be there. Looking, protecting, restless in the way that they can not pretend without an escape. A reconnection with their true origin.

It’s hard to say how much that could have been true when the feeling of mythos and impossible things flows through you on an everyday basis.

It is only when they are truly alone do they fall into the routine, the old songs flowing through them like when they were first created.  This stirring of their spirit self-coming from the need to fold into the magic they hold and wield, often in smaller, subtle ways.

Sometimes, they are a little tempted to share this truth. But it’s always the question of how best to do so. And whether they should even bother, the perpetual mystery is fun, too.

💯 What is my muse’s ideal date?

image

While they are flexible to going on dates that tailor towards the interests of their partner at a given time, Saima is weak for a date that involves good music and if the weather allows, a walk in nature somewhere. They find that allowing themselves to relax in somewhere gorgeous is a good way to open up around someone in a different way. And of course, there’s not like a performance to unlock Saima’s passion for creating and hearing the music.

💗 Has my muse ever been in love?

It’s a difficult question for Saima to answer because they honestly have a hard time grappling with what it even means to be in love. This lack of comprehension leaves them a little confused and nervous about the concept since they are so used to not…being wanted and all that. So if anything, they may have had feelings for people but it has rarely been reciprocated. And they tend to expect that to continue in the future.

But I suppose Saima has been involved enough times to have fallen for people a couple of times. Even if they can’t super determine what qualifies for that.

Random timeline note (since now I’m finally getting some kind of structure to their early life.)

It appears likely that a lot of Saima started getting close to pre-teenhood (8-11,12) during 450-600 as the increased changes associated with it would line up well with the Migration period where there is a lot of altering circumstances that could very well kick off some developments in them.  Mind that they were still in that state for a while -since full on teenagerdom (13-14) would probably arrive with the Viking Era.

A further rough timeline below the cut.

– Early development – (0-7) Pre-Roman Iron Age – Roman Iron Age (500 BC -450 AD)

– Childhood (8-11,12) – Migration Period – Pre-Viking Era (450-800)

-Early teenager (13-15) – Viking Era – Middle Ages (800- 1558)

-Late teenager (16-18) – Swedish Era – National Awakening (1558 – 1850)

– Age 19-22 National Awakening – WW1 and Independence (1850 – 1920)

-22-Current Age (roughly 25) 1920- Present

It doesn’t occur naturally to Saima to talk about themselves. As a result, if they have nothing they particularly want to say to someone – it doesn’t really seem like they have all that much of themselves to share. And little updates in their life don’t occur that often so unless someone asks, they won’t bother to say much.

Of course, if prompted they will answer to the best of their ability. And can be rather matter-of-fact about their responses too. But because they operate under the assumption that no one really cares, they aren’t super inclined to speak unless it’s really necessary.

Because of this, it’s really easy for someone to be really friendly with Saima and yet feel like they aren’t saying a whole lot about themselves.

And if they do write about it – especially in places where other people can see it, they will refuse to use names because why would they. If someone asks for clarification, they’ll give it in private. But otherwise, they keep things purposely ambiguous because of this discomfort with speaking about their feelings unprompted.

HOMERIC EPITHET! You are SAIMA , great teller of tales. The Greek hero Odysseus had many epithets ascribed to him (others included “much-enduring,” “cunning,” and “man of twists and turns”), and this was one of them, so you’re in good company.

FATAL FLAW! /     YOUR BRUTAL HONESTY. You’re blunt. You’re outspoken. Frankly, you’re kind of a jerk. But you get away with it because you’re usually right and also because you’re indispensable to the major plot. But honestly? It’s going to come back to haunt you. One of these days, you’re going to be TOO honest. You’re going to refuse to lie at a critical juncture, upholding your honorable caustic truthfulness, and you’re going to pay the ultimate price for it.

GREEK MYTHOLOGY DEATH! /     YOU GOT MURDERED BY ACCIDENT IN ACHILLES’ ARMOUR. One day, during the Trojan War, Achilles decides to just up and quit. He’s the greatest warrior apparently ever, so this is something of an issue. You can’t bear to watch men die in battle for Achilles’ pride, so you don his armor yourself and lead his men into battle. Everyone thinks you are Achilles, and morale is high. You die, however, because somewhere in there you remember that you’re actually terrible at fighting. Silver lining: Achilles avenges your death something FIERCE. So that’s something.

LITERARY SETTING! /    You got JULIET’S HOUSE IN VERONA ! You got Juliet’s house in Verona! Not only is Verona one of the most beautiful places in Italy, it’s also the setting of one of the most iconic love stories of all time—perfect for a hopeless romantic like yourself. You can walk the old-fashioned cobblestone streets, eat your weight in deliciously photogenic gelato, and look out from your balcony at night, waiting for your lover to climb up the wooden trellis and profess their undying affection. Just don’t get caught up in any ancient grudges/new mutinies—for your sake, and for the sake of students in English classes for centuries to come.

Have your muse describe the worst emotional pain they have been in.

“Somehow describing emotional pain is even worse just because I still.. I still carry a lot of that emotional pain from over the years. That shit builds up quite a bit. And no matter how much time has passed, the impacts of that pain still is able to get inside you and make you feel completely and utterly worthless.

But you know.. I think the mid 20th century was just a nightmare in general for me. And the loss of independence, the knowledge that it really could have turned out differently, the loss that came with being oppressed under a terrible authoritarian regime and feeling like no one really cared about the way you were just.. taken away from the world. It was incredibly isolating, and frankly, that still weighs on me a lot. It’ll take some time for me to try and get from there – when the impacts of the time are still with me.”

Have your muse describe the worst physical pain they have been in.

“Physical pain, that …that’s a hard one to describe the tops because there are just so many incidents, so many times of near-death that have been particularly painful. I guess being cut open as part of some experiments was pretty gruesome. There was something about what kind of mess I could actually endure including removing parts and seeing if they would regenerate.

Turns out, for me at least, they did.

They would try to revive me a number of times to see my reaction. That was ghoulish and honestly, I’m not entirely certain what anyone got out of doing that kind of work to me.

But otherwise, the burning and illness that comes with being frail and having so much population loss at a single time are also pretty high up there in terms of physical pain.”
