“ Would you do me the pleasure of going to dinner with me? I know this really nice restaurant. I know you’ll love it. ” Come on, how can you turn down a face like this?
“I’d be honored to go to dinner with you. It’d be fun to check out what restaurant you had in mind.” Saima can’t and won’t turn down such a face if they can help it.
“Irunya, I adore her so much. She’s been such a kind friend to me over the years. And even though my circumstances have changed a lot, I’m so grateful to be able to still spend time with her. To still have a familiarity and willingness to just enjoy being around her. Ah – she’s too great for this realm as far as I’m concerned. Having to deal with so much. As a friend, I just want to see her as happy as possible.”
“ Okay, okay. Prepare your laugh box for an onslaught of quality humor! ” Irunya clears her throat, hoping her joke is worth the current hype she’s putting up.
“
Why did the farmer feed his pigs sugar and vinegar? ” A beat of silence. “ He wanted sweet and sour pork! ”
“Sure, sure.” One could never be certain if a joke would be nearly as funny as hyped up to be. Still, Irunya had a way of making Saima laugh so that they didn’t doubt her too much. When that punchline came, they snickered appreciatively – usually weak for a bit of punnery.
“ If there’s one thing I don’t miss about the farm life, it’s having to deal with snowy crops. ” There’s always a bright side. However, it seems like her windowsill garden will face some tough weather this winter. “ There is something about the chilly weather that gets my cooking kick going. ”
“Yeah, that’s always the struggle that comes with maintaining crops.” It was a situation that they had known all too well over the years. “Oh yes. I’m looking forward to doing some baking and cooking. I guess the appeal of the warm smells of good food is always welcome.”
“ Isn’t it just a pleasure adjusting to the cold? ” There’s a hint of sarcasm in her voice. “ As much as I love the snow, I’ll miss the sunny days. ”
“Truly thrilling times.” While they didn’t mind the snow as much, they couldn’t resist sympathizing with that sarcastic tinge in her voice. “Yeah I understand that. The sunny days will be sorely missed in the dark, dark days that are to come.”
“ I understand completely! I am glad that you are stepping away. You deserve to put yourself before any position thrust upon you, especially if it is not what you are made for. I am.. proud, if that is the correct word! ” It certainly felt like it. It was an exciting prospect to see them embracing a life that would allow for more comfort. Knowing Saima as long as she has, she knew that they certainly deserved it. “ I won’t drag you here if you don’t want to step back into that life. We could always ditch and go – er – what do they do around here? Mini-golfing? ”
It was a real relief that their friend didn’t seem to feel badly about Saima stepping away. It was that kind of support that made them feel like it was ultimately the best decision in the long run. “Oh.. that, that means a lot to me, Irunya. Thank you so much.”
The idea of ditching made them smile. “Heh. I’m sure we could find a mini-golf place around here. That sounds like a lot of fun actually.”
“You are a lovely person who I honestly think feel like you’ve gotten the short end of the stick so much. You deserve so much more and I can’t help but wish the best for you. You’ve been so good to me although…I haven’t been as forthright as I could be with you or many others. I have nothing but respect for you and the way that you do have a kindness that is so sincere that feels like a rarity. I appreciate you a lot, I just thought I’d let you know.”
“ I find bliss in few things more than our time together. I suppose if I were to put it in simpler terms, spending time with you makes me very happy! You’re such lovely company. ”
“Ah, I’m so glad to hear that. I try to be good company whenever I bother to be around people. So – it’s nice to know that my efforts have been working.”
